Dear Resident, Vehicle crime is often a crime of opportunity, we regularly receive calls informing us that there are persons walking down streets trying the door handles on various vehicles, in the hope that someone has forgotten to lock it. The same goes for people looking into vehicles, hoping that a laptop, expensive coat, or bag has been left in the vehicle. The following 5 tips will reduce the risk of your vehicle being targeted in this way. Always lock your vehicle, even if you are only away from it for a short period, it only takes seconds for someone to remove property from an unlocked vehicle or drive it away if the key has been left inside.Remove the temptation for some to break into your vehicle by never leaving any property on show. It only takes seconds to remove property and put it somewhere safe.Make your vehicle harder to steal by using additional prevention measures such as steering wheel locks or disc locks on motorbikes. Criminals don't always come prepared with tools to remove such items. Also consider fitting an approved tracker that will aid in locating the vehicle if it is stolen. If you have a keyless entry vehicle, keep all the keys to it in a faraday pouch or box, this will restrict the signal reaching the vehicle and prevent relay thefts from taking place.Always report suspicious behaviour to the Police, especially if persons are seen paying attention to vehicles or trying door handles. Please consider these simple tips and prevent vehicle crime before it happens.
